On April 10, 2010, a Polish Tupolev Tu-154 military plane crashes in Smolensk, resulting in the deaths of 96 people, including Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, deputy speakers of the Sejm and Senate, as well as commanders of all branches of the Polish Armed Forces. The delegation is en route to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. The president and his wife are later interred in the Wawel Basilica.

Krakow, Poland on April 10th, 2025 On 10 April 2010, a Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft of the Polish Air Force crashed near Smolensk, Russia, killing all 96 people on board. Among the victims were the President of Poland Lech Kaczyski and his wife Maria Kaczynska.
