Despite Madagascar's significant mineral wealth, biodiversity, and agricultural land, the Indian Ocean island nation is among the poorest countries in the world. At least 22 people are killed and more than 100 injured in the first few days of the protests. Protests grow since last week into the largest wave of unrest Madagascar has seen in years, tapping into widespread discontent with high levels of poverty and corruption.

This movement launches at the beginning of the summer on social networks against Macron's policies: downsizing the welfare state to cut taxes for businesses, increasing the Defense budget and Interior Ministry, and his choice of conservative Sebastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister. His pro-business stance angers French people, who blockade everywhere in France on September 10. A gathering and a march are authorized by the Prefect of Occitanie. The Prefect decides to forbid the gathering called by the CGT union and the march one and a half hours before the beginning. Thousands of people took part demanding an end to genocide in Gaza, a halt to UK arms sales to Israel, and justice for Palestinians, while the Metropolitan Police and other forces made nearly 900 arrests. Participants in the pro-Palestinian protest ''We Sail to Gaza'' in solidarity with the humanitarian effort organized by the Global Sumud Flotilla march through the streets of the city in Krakow, Poland, on September 3, 2025. Ships from 44 countries set sail for the Gaza Strip to break the Israeli blockade of the region and deliver humanitarian aid to civilians. The ships also sail to draw attention to Israel's illegal blockade. Any attempt by Israel to stop the flotilla violates international law. The expedition is organized by the Global Sumud Flotilla with the support of the Global Movement to Gaza. The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) declares that Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip meet the legal definition of genocide.
