Scuffles between protesters against compulsory vaccination and the police took place outside the town hall in Thessaloniki during the opening ceremony of Thessaloniki International Fair with the speech of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Greece is having a mandatory vaccination for people working in the public healthcare sector. Multiple protests and demonstration took place in Thessaloniki with the city center in a lockdown. On the part of the police, there was a helicopter monitoring the situation with strong force, tear gas chemicals were used, stun grenades and the water cannon but the side of the anti-vaxxers fired Molotov bomb cocktails, fireworks, fire crackers and objects at the police while a fire broke out outside the town hall. Police arrested 15 people for the clashes. Thessaloniki, Greece on September 11, 2021

Scuffles between protesters against compulsory vaccination and the police took place outside the town hall in Thessaloniki during the opening ceremony of Thessaloniki International Fair with the speech of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. About 150 anarchists, self-styled anti-state / anti-authoritarian protesters took advantage of the annual commemoration of a students’ uprising against a military junta then ruling Greece in 1973 and went after the march into the Polytechnic school in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The Polytechnic enjoys a no law enforcement asylum status. So they attacked the police and during the march they set fire on a car, a bus ticket station and they threw red paint in shops. Also they they attacked against the police with tear gas, fireworks, stones and petrol bombs (molotov). They blocked also the road with desks from the university after setting them also in fire. Police arrested 2 and one police officer was injured.
