In Gdansk, Poland, on August 31, 2025, Andrzej Gwiazda, an opposition activist and co-founder of the Free Trade Unions of the Coast and NSZZ 'Solidarity', smokes a cigarette during a wreath-laying ceremony at the gate of the Gdansk Shipyard. On August 31, 1980, the August Agreements are signed between the democratic opposition and the communist government. That month, around 700,000 people take part in strikes, and the newly founded trade union Solidarity attracts 9-10 million members. To commemorate these events, an anniversary is held in the BHP Hall of the Gdansk Shipyard, and flowers are laid at the shipyard gate.

Participants commemorate the 81st anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising at the Main Market Square in Krakow, Poland, on August 1, 2025. On August 1, 1944, at 5:00 p.m. - the 'W' hour, the Warsaw Uprising begins, with the aim of liberating the capital from German occupation before the Red Army enters. The uprising is supposed to last a few days, but it falls only on October 3 after 63 days of fighting. Between 16,000 and 18,000 Home Army soldiers and between 150,000 and 180,000 civilians die, and the city is completely destroyed.
