Violent scuffles broke out on the streets of Thessaloniki on November 17, 2016, after thousands marched to mark the 43rd anniversary of the Athens Polytechnic uprising against Greece's military junta 17 November.Street violence after a mass protest in Thessaloniki, again mars anniversary of 1973 students' uprising against the dictatorship. About 150 anarchists, self-styled anti-state / anti-authoritarian protesters took advantage of the annual commemoration of a students’ uprising against a military junta then ruling Greece in 1973 and went after the march into the Polytechnic school in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The Polytechnic enjoys a no law enforcement asylum status. So they attacked the police and during the march they set fire on a car, a bus ticket station and they threw red paint in shops. Also they they attacked against the police with tear gas, fireworks, stones and petrol bombs (molotov). They blocked also the road with desks from the university after setting them also in fire. Police arrested 2 and one police officer was injured.
