'Omas gegen Rechts' or Grannies Against the Right is a grassroots citizen initiative that originates in Vienna in 2017 as a response to the rise of extreme right-wing political ideologies. The German branch establishes in 2018. The movement primarily consists of women, many of whom are retired or nearing retirement, who are deeply concerned about political and social trends they believe threaten the future of their grandchildren. In recognition of their activism, 'Omas gegen Rechts' receives the Paul Spiegel Prize for Civil Courage from the Central Council of Jews in Germany in 2020.
