As every year in Holy Week and precisely on Friday in San Marco in Lamis there is one of the fire events that combines tradition, culture and holy rites, namely the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows accompanied by the fracchie, huge bonfires placed horizontally on iron carts with huge wheels dragged by dozens of people ''the fracchisti.'' The origins of this spectacular event date back to the last century, when there was still no electric lighting and ''fracchie'' were used to illuminate with the light of burning wood the route of Our Lady of Sorrows from the church of the same name through the main streets of the town.
