Indian authorities have moved thousands of migrant workers in Kashmir to safer locations, while hundreds have fled the Kashmir valley after a wave of targeted killings. Most of the Labour and construction work in kashmir is done by the Non-Local Labourers, work at most of the construction is affected after the migrant workers left the Valley. Government estimates say about 400,000 migrant workers come to Kashmir every year, seeking work as masons, carpenters, tailors and bricklayers. Before the onset of the region’s brutal winter, most of them leave for their home states, while a few stay back.
