The Indonesian government on Tuesday, July 5, raised public mobility restrictions in the capital city Jakarta to level 2 following a significant increase in reported cases of Omicron variants of the coronavirus. On July 4, Indonesia recorded 1,434 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases, taking the country's total tally to 6,095,351 cases. The level 2 restriction has also been implemented in Jakarta's satellite cities, including Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

He asserted that averting a lockdown during the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic helped, and he claims Indonesia is one of the countries in the world that managed to handle the pandemic.

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin today announced the first case of the new coronavirus variant. An Indonesian identified as N, who is a janitor at Jakarta quarantine center Wisma Atlet, was tested positive for the disease and contracted the Omicron variant. In addition to one confirmed case of the Omicron variant, Health Minister said there are 5 five probable cases of Omicron. Two of them are now under quarantine at the Jakarta Wisma Atlet. They are Indonesian citizens who had just returned from the United States and the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, the three others are foreigners from China who visited Manado and are now quarantined in Manado, North Sulawesi.
