A small child is looking at the alligator gar (Atractosteus spatula) at the zoological garden in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, on March 9, 2024. The alligator gar is a euryhaline ray-finned fish in the clade Ginglymodi of the infraclass Holostei, closely related to the bowfins. It is the largest species in the gar family and is one of the largest freshwater fish in North America.
