A protester speaks into a megaphone during a demonstration in Piazza del Duomo in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla. In Florence, Italy, on October 2, 2025, students march through the city center and occupy university buildings in solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla. The international civil society–led maritime initiative launches in 2025, aiming to break the naval blockade on Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and establish a people-led humanitarian corridor. Comprising dozens of vessels and participants from over 40 countries, it draws global attention and sparks protests worldwide after several boats are intercepted by Israeli forces. In Florence, students join the international wave of solidarity, calling for justice in Palestine.
