Leaders and activists of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) , an amalgam of pro- Kashmir resistance organizations, shout anti Indian slogans during a protest to mark the World Human Rights Day on December 10, 2016 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, India. Organisers said the protest demonstration was meant to draw the world's attention to the gross human rights violations by Indian government forces in Kashmir. Indian forces in Kashmir are often blamed for grave rights abuses like widespread torture, rape, custodial murder and enforced disappearances in the Muslim-majority region. Kashmir has been a state under siege, with both India and Pakistan laying claim to it.

Indian police personals detain senior separatist leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani outside his house as he tried to participate in a march towards an army base in Srinagar Aug. 27, 2016.A strict curfew and a tightening crackdown by authorities have failed to stop some of Kashmir's largest protests against Indian rule in recent years, triggered by the killing of a popular rebel commander on July 8. Since then, tens of thousands of people have defied the curfew, staged protests and clashed with government forces,70 people have been killed by Goverment forces in the protests.
