The airport opens its international flight operations, and remained closed for 6 months to prevent the spread of COVID-19. During the pandemic, 84,344 people were infected and 3,076 died.

Authorities the General Direction of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) check the temperature of a Guatemalan to enter the airport on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. On September 18, La Aurora International Airport will resume operations for international and local flights. It has all the health security protocols for its opening. Air traffic was partially suspended for almost six months to prevent contagion from civid-19. During the pandemic, 82,924 people were infected and 3,009 died.
