On July 25, 2025, dancers and the general public visit the Zocalo in Mexico City, Mexico, to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the founding of Tenochtitlan. This year marks the fall of the last great civilizations of indigenous resistance due to the Spanish invasion and genocide, giving rise to the Aztec empire and maintaining its tradition to this day. Tenochtitlan is a monumental city, built on a lake and prospering for more than a century. Palaces, causeways, wooden bridges, canoes that travel through the canals, and dozens of people walking around the city are part of the descriptions of the place described by conquistador Bernal Diaz del Castillo in his True History of the Conquest of New Spain.
