Julien Le Guet, spokesperson for the ''Bassines non merci'' collective, is speaking to a police officer during a march as part of a rally against the construction of a giant water reservoir (mega-bassine) near Migne-Auxances, in western France, on July 19, 2024. Fifteen months after the clashes at Sainte-Soline, several thousand opponents of irrigation reservoirs, who have been gathering in the Deux-Sevres since July 16, 2024, are demonstrating in neighbouring Vienne on July 19, despite a ban imposed by the authorities. This ''great march,'' aimed at ''extracting a moratorium'' on the construction of water reservoirs, is leading them to fear ''acts of great violence'': more than 3,000 gendarmes are being mobilised to ''protect'' farms and agricultural installations.
