A pair of women ride 'Boris Bikes' in warm spring sunshine beside the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park in London, England, on March 29, 2021. Lockdown restrictions were eased across England today, with the 'stay home' rule ended, groups of up to six allowed to meet outside, outdoor sports restarted and weddings with up to six people attending permitted to go ahead. Shops, hospitality and leisure businesses remain closed however, with the next relaxation of restrictions not due until April 12 at the earliest. Today's easing has meanwhile coincided with the first of a three-day 'mini-heatwave', with daytime temperatures in London forecast to rise above 20C until the latter half of this week.

Two men on 'Boris Bikes' ride past the shuttered Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square in London, England, on May 15, 2020. Nearly eight full weeks have now passed since British Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered the country's coronavirus lockdown on March 23, although across England some of the measures, including the restriction on exercising outdoors more than once a day, have this week been removed. As the country emerges from lockdown, cycling is being encouraged across London as a way to move around without relying unduly on public transport.

Mallards walking on a bike path in Toulouse. Since the beginning of the lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak in France on March 16th, public parks and gardens, playgrounds are forbidden to the public. For more than six weeks, nobody has intervened in these public spaces. And the cleaning services haven't cut the wandering vegetation which grows in the streets or in the cracks of the city. As a result, nature reclaims public spaces. A botanist, Boris Presseq from the Natural History Museum of Toulouse, keeps an eye on this green explosion. Toulouse. France. May 8th 2020.

Britain is now well into its seventh week of coronavirus lockdown, although a slight easing of the restrictions is expected to be announced this Sunday, along with a schedule for further 'easements' over the coming months. Covid-19 deaths across the country have meanwhile reached 30,076 according to today's figures from the UK's Department of Health and Social Care. The figure is currently considered to be the highest in Europe, though experts have cautioned that it may be some months before accurate comparisons of countries' coronavirus death tolls can be drawn.

A 'Bikers For Brexit' group waving a Union Jack flag ride through Parliament Square in London, England, on January 31, 2020. Britain's exit from the European Union, today at 11pm UK time (midnight in Brussels), comes more than three and a half years since the country's deeply polarising EU membership referendum, yet the moment brings to an end only the first stage of the Brexit saga, with the UK's future relationship with the bloc still to be negotiated. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has insisted that the 11-month transition period, wherein arrangements continue practically unchanged, will not be extended past its December 31 expiration date and that a trade deal can be reached in that time. Critics argue that any such deal will have to be severely constrained in ambition to be negotiated in such a short period, and that workers' rights and other protections may be lost in the process.
