1 May 2025
Researchers hold a banner reading 'Money for our pensions, not for war. For Public research: no to cuts in the budget, no to war between laboratories, yes for a better pay'. On May Day or Labour Day, thousands of people take to the streets in Toulouse, France, on May 1, 2025. Trade unionists, people, yellow vests, anarchists, and members of political parties come to the demonstration. This year, people are worried about what French President Emmanuel Macron will do regarding defense and social issues, as he, like other Western leaders, wants to push for defense spending. The French government says French people will be asked to make efforts on the French social model to pay for defense. Antiracism, antifascism, and the Gaza war are also mottos of the march.

Christophe Cassou, a CNRS and GIEC member as climatologist speaks in the camp against the A69 highway. The collectives 'La Voie Est Libre' (ie 'The Way Is Free'), the farmers organization Confederation Paysanne, XR Toulouse (Extinction Rebellion Toulouse) and 'Les soulevements de la Terre' organized a week-end of mobilization in Saix neart Castres (Tarn) against the beginning of the works on the decried future highway Toulouse-Castres, the A69. Thousands of people stayed in the camp with tents. They assisted to speeches, press conferences, information points before going protesting along places to be destroyed by the highway and on the N126 . This highway would cost (at date) EUR512millions for 54 kilometers, half of the money will be public. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural field would be destroyed if the A69 highway is built. The A69 highway is already nicknamed 'Fabre highway' as it's this compagny which wants the A69 to be built. Saix. Tarn. France. April 22th 2023.

14 October 2022
Marieke Van Lichtervelde (CNRS, geologist) begins the conference-occupation. 'Scientists Rebellion' staged a conference-occupation of the forum 'Toulouse Zero Carbone' in the townhall of Toulouse, the Capitole. The conference-occupation was about climate urgency and on the obligation to reduce drasticaaly our emissions of warming gas. This serie of conferences pitted the CEO of Total Energies sud-Ouest, LP Promotion (a developper), a deputy of the mayor of Toulouse, etc. Scientists Rebellion and ANV-COP21 denounce the presence of TotalEnergies (which owns several 'Climate bombs' as defined by the peers- revue Energy Policy) amid others. Energy Policy qualifies as 'Climate bombs', projects which will emit each one more than 1bn tons of warming gasses during their lifespan. The protesters say it's only a 'summit of greenwashing'. Toulouse. France. October 14th 2021.
