Weeds collected from the waters of Dal Lake are seen in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on June 5, 2026, during World Environment Day. World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to raise awareness and encourage action for environmental protection, with the 2026 theme being ''Climate Action'' (NowForClimate). According to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, approximately 74% of Kashmir's lakes and water bodies have either disappeared or become smaller. Of 697 water bodies studied, 315 have vanished and 203 have reduced in size, resulting in a loss of about 2,851 hectares since 1967. Climate change and encroachment are among the main causes. Glaciers in the Kashmir Himalayas have been shrinking due to rising temperatures, less snowfall, and changing weather patterns. Studies indicate that some glaciers, such as the Thajiwas Glacier in Sonamarg, have lost most of their ice, and the region may have lost roughly a quarter to a third of its glacier cover over the past 60 years.

Evidence is collected at the scene where a 35-year-old man is fatally stabbed and a 36-year-old man is injured at 5009 6 Avenue, Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York, United States, on May 28, 2026. On May 28, 2026, at approximately 4:55 AM, police respond within the confines of the 72 Precinct and observe a 35-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive with stab wounds in the torso, and a 36-year-old male with a slashed wound to the face. EMS transports the 35-year-old man to NYU Langone Hospital--Brooklyn where he is pronounced dead. The 36-year-old man is transported to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn in stable condition. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Keys, blood, a hat, a shirt, and other evidence are recovered from the scene. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
