Participants pay homage and recall the late monarch's contributions to Nepal, particularly his role in promoting national unity, peace, and democratic reforms during his reign. King Birendra, born on December 28, 1945 (Poush 14, 2002 B.S.), is remembered for advocating Nepal as a Zone of Peace and for guiding the country through significant political transitions. He is assassinated on June 1, 2001 (Jestha 19, 2058 B.S.), during the tragic royal palace massacre at Narayanhiti Palace.
