The autonomous Food Train, built and maintained by the Ukrainian Railways and financed by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, set out from Kyiv to Kharkiv and Izium on its maiden voyage. On its first trip, the train is delivering Thanksgiving meals to local residents and Ukrainian emergency workers, paramedics, and police officers working in the region. The train consists of six carriages, including a generator car, a refrigerator car, a cold kitchen car, a hot kitchen car, a crew car with a shower and washing machine, and a luggage car with a 27,000-liter water reservoir, a filtration station, and a pumping station. The Food Train can operate autonomously using its generators and water supply for up to 7 days and deliver 10,000 hot meals per day to regions of Ukraine that have sustained serious damage to logistic and power networks across de-occupied territories.
