Nepali demonstrators demand the scrapping of a cable car construction in Pathivara, a religious site in Sankhuwasabha district in Eastern Nepal, which is also referred to as ''Mukumlung'' by the ethnic Kirati community of Nepal. They paint their faces with slogans while demonstrating in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 5, 2025. The construction of the cable car line has long been in dispute. The idea is first raised by Olangchung Gola-based traders during King Birendra's visit to the area in 1988. Later, four business persons register Kanchanjungha Cable Car Pvt Ltd in 1998, but it is left in limbo. In May 2018, the executive committee meeting of Phungling Municipality gives permission to Pathibhara Mata Darshan Pvt Ltd to construct the cable car as per clause 11 (6) of the Local Government Operation Act, 2017. The project results in bloodshed and frequent clashes in the area where the construction is planned.

This is just one of the many reminders of the deep scars caused during the 26-year long civil war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam). The United Nations estimates about 40,000 people were killed during the war.
