Elon Musk (center) attends Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial address to a joint session of Congress in Washington, DC, July 24, 2024. Traditionally presiding over joint sessions, Vice President Kamala Harris and Senate Democratic leaders declined to serve in that role for Netanyahu’s speech, and many members of Congress boycotted the session. Millions of Americans object to the nature of Israel’s response to the killing of 1200 of its citizens by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Israel’s retaliation has killed more than 38,000 Palestinians, injured more than 88,000, and displaced roughly 1.9 million, according to the United Nations.
