KAZAKHSTAN Baikonur Cosmodrome -- 14 Mar 2016 -- The ESA ExoMars 2016 probe lifted off on a Proton-M rocket from Baikonur, Kazakhstan at 09:31 GMT on 14 March 2016. It will drop a probe onto the surface of the Red Planet and then take up it's orbit.

KAZAKHSTAN Baikonur Cosmodrome -- 14 Mar 2016 -- The ESA ExoMars 2016 probe (pictured in this artist's impression) lifted off on a Proton-M rocket from Baikonur, Kazakhstan at 09:31 GMT on 14 March 2016. This arstist's impression depicts the ESA ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter at Mars as it releases it's ground probe. It will search for evidence of methane and other atmospheric gases that could be signatures of active biological or geological processes on Mars. TGO will also serve as a communications relay for the rover and surface science platform that will be launched in 2018
