Protesters are facing off with police officers as they demand the release of five individuals who have been arrested. Extinction Rebellion - Toulouse is currently organizing an action called 'Hello Darkness' in front of the town hall of Toulouse, the Capitole, to protest against the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. They are also protesting against the construction of several bitumen plants along the A69 near schools and organic vegetable producers. Some activists are covering themselves with fake bitumen to symbolize the pollution caused by asphalt production. Police have intervened and arrested five people. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (meaning 'The Way is Free'), along with other opponents, is demanding that the construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions regarding the matter are made. The issue of expropriations for farmers has not been resolved. Opponents of the project argue that the reprofiling of the N126 would be sufficient for the anticipated 6,000 vehicles per day and would cost significantly less money. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, not adjusted for inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would result in the destruction of over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land. In Toulouse, France, on May 4, 2024.

Activists are facing riot police who have arrested five of them as they reclaim their liberation. Extinction Rebellion - Toulouse is organizing an action called 'Hello Darkness' in front of the town hall of Toulouse, the Capitole, to denounce the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. They are also protesting against the construction of several bitumen plants along the A69 near schools and organic vegetable producers. Some activists are receiving false bitumen on them to symbolize the pollution caused by asphalt production. Police have intervened and arrested five people. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free'), along with other opponents, wants the construction of the highway to be halted until all judicial decisions on the matter are made. All expropriations for farmers have not been cleared. Opponents of this project argue that the reprofiling of the N126 would be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles expected per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction will destroy more than 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural fields. A passer-by asks to the Red Rebels why they act as the banner in the background reads 'Toulouse waters contaminated, who's protect our grund waters'. Activists from XR put a giant banner reading 'Toulouse waters contaminated, who's protect our ground waters ?' on the Pont-Neuf bridge in Toulouse to denounce the public works industries as they operate gravel quarries in the phreatic tables of the Ariege and Garonne rivers. Red Rebels and Black Rebels played a scene and pay tribute to the Garonne river. However police intervened and forced XR activits to put down the banners. They confiscated the banners and also arrested two XR people amid a crackdown in France on ecologist campaigners. After extracting sand and gravel, they put public works waste in the quarries thus polluting the ground water with aluminium, polystyrene, concrete, etc. These phreatic tables are already running low due to the persistent drought in France and they are used for drinking water of Toulouse amid other towns along the Ariege and Garonne river. This warter is also used for irrigation. Toulouse. France. June 24th 2023.
