In Krakow, Poland, on February 1, 2026, the flag of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), the female brigade of the official armed wing of the Kurdish Supreme Committee, is displayed at the 'All Eyes On Rojava' demonstration in solidarity with the residents of Rojava on the Main Market Square. The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, commonly known as Rojava, is a semi-autonomous region in Syria, with more than half of its population being Kurds. It is known for defeating ISIS forces and its commitment to freedom of religion and women's equality. At the end of 2024, Bashar al-Assad's rule falls, and former al-Qaeda member Ahmad al-Shara takes power with the radical Islamic group Hayat Tahrir al-Shara (HTS). President al-Shara recognizes the Kurdish language by decree and declares the Kurdish holiday of Nawruz a national holiday. However, at the same time, the Syrian army begins mass displacement of Kurds and shelling of Kurdish neighborhoods, including in Aleppo, where over 100,000 Kurds flee the city.

The Fulvous Forest Skimmer is a medium-sized, rusty-colored dragonfly with transparent wing tips, native to Asia. It has a reddish-brown body and wings, while females are paler and may be rusty-brown or yellowish-brown. The transparent tips of its wings are a key identifying feature that distinguishes it from other red Asian dragonflies.
