Former Nepali House Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara is escorted in a police van from the central jail in Kathmandu, Nepal, to the district court following a court order to release him on bail in a gold smuggling case on November 27, 2025. Former Speaker and CPN (Maoist Centre) Vice-chair Krishna Bahadur Mahara is arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) in connection with a gold smuggling case. The Patan High Court orders his release on a bail amount of NRs 2 million. Mahara is arrested on October 12, 2025, following fresh instructions from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which conducts an inquiry into his alleged involvement in smuggling gold concealed inside electronic cigarettes (vapes) in collaboration with a Chinese organized group. According to police, the CIAA seeks his detention to move forward with a renewed probe into his role in facilitating the entry of smuggled gold through the vape-import channel. Mahara is questioned by the CIAA only days earlier, on October 9, 2025. Although his name surfaces in the gold smuggling case three years ago, both the District Government Attorney's Office and Nepal Police previously free him during earlier rounds of investigation. Authorities now allege that Mahara uses his political influence to help a smuggling racket bring gold into Nepal in 2022, an operation that also leads to the arrest of his son, Rahul Mahara, on suspicion of involvement. In March 2024, Mahara is arrested from Kapilvastu and brought to Kathmandu for questioning related to the case. The Kathmandu District Court later remands him to custody, but he is allowed to stay at Norvic Hospital citing health complications. A high-level government commission led by former High Court Chief Judge Dilli Raj Acharya earlier criticizes the CIB for ''intentionally avoiding'' a full investigation into Mahara and other senior officials allegedly linked to large-scale gold smuggling.

As the Global Sumud Flotilla is stopped by Israel and their members are put in jail, in Toulouse, France, on October 4, 2025, people take to the streets to demand the liberation of all people from the flotilla detained in Israel and to denounce the current Israeli onslaught in Gaza. Five French MPs from the France Unbowed party, including Francois Piquemal (a Toulouse MP), and the leader of the CGT union of Haute-Garonne are arrested and detained in Israel. Several hundred protesters participate in the march. The last gathering called by the CGT, FSU, and SUD unions is violently attacked by riot police on October 2 as the Prefect decides to forbid the gathering and the march one and a half hours before the beginning. Riot police charge and clash violently with peaceful protesters and unionists using tear gas and pepper spray. The Israeli onslaught in Gaza is deemed 'genocide' by the CPI and several NGOs such as Amnesty International, HRW, PHR, etc. Israel crosses all the red lines of humanitarian laws and even laws of war. No meaningful humanitarian assistance is delivered to Gaza since March 2, and a UN-related global hunger monitor warns that more than a million people face starvation in Gaza. Now more than 500 Palestinians die of human-made starvation. Since October 7, 2023, nearly 67,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza by the Israeli army.

'Ecureuils' set up their encampment in one of the plane trees. Since 3 a.m. this morning, four 'Ecureuils' (i.e., 'squirrels') from the GNSA ('National Group of Trees Watching' founded by Thomas Brail, the activist and arborist-climber) occupy two plane trees in Vendine, France, on August 28, 2025, to block their cutting for works on the planned A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. They deploy a banner on Article 2 of the constitutional law about preserving the environment. Initially, only two plane trees are to be cut, but now about 10 plane trees will be cut. 'Ecureuils' plan to stay until NGE/Atosca explains the necessity of the cutting and consider going on trial about these planned cuttings. The concessionaire of the A69, NGE/Atosca, repeatedly says that all trees have already been cut for the A69. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free') and other opponents want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content are given. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers.
