An Asian house gecko or common house gecko (Hemidactylus frenatus) hangs from the iron rod of a window by its two hind legs in an acrobatic manner, much like a gymnast, as it prepares to jump to the next rod in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on September 8, 2024. These geckos are nocturnal, hiding during the day and foraging for insects at night. They are often seen climbing the walls of houses and other buildings in search of insects attracted to porch lights, and are easily recognizable by their characteristic chirping sound.

This harmless (not venomous) snake prefers the treetops to life on the ground. It can be camouflaged among the leaves because of its ruddy brown skin. Its diet includes geckos, birds and occasionally frogs.
