Guitarist and lead vocalist Goher Mumtaz of the Pakistani rock band Jal performs during the Pakistani Independence Day celebrations in Markham, Ontario, Canada, on August 03, 2009. The Pakistani alternative rock band Jal is one of the most commercially successful and influential rock music groups of all time in Pakistan. The band is well known for being one of the few contemporary Pakistani music bands to have fused Urdu musical vocals with modern pop music. This concert was sold out and the police had to be called in to control the massive crowds that poured into see this popular sensation as teenage girls fainted and blew kisses towards the stage. Older women wearing hijabs tapped to the rhythm as the younger generation erupted into a frenzy of dance and song.
