Environmental Researchers Have Long Blamed India's Water Scarcity On The Country's Flawed Agricultural Policies. ''Water Productivity Of Crop'' Is A New Measure That Calculates How Much Water (evapotranspiration) Is Irrigated Per Crop And How Much Is Produced. In Many Districts Of Water-rich Gangetic West Bengal And Assam, The Groundwater Table Has Started To Drop Below 100 Feet On Dry Days (500 Feet Below In Punjab). According To A Report Of The World Bank ''Water Is A Critical Input For Agricultural Production And Plays An Important Role In Food Security. Irrigated Agriculture Represents 20 Percent Of The Total Cultivated Land And Contributes 40 Percent Of The Total Food Produced Worldwide. Due To Population Growth, Urbanization, And Climate Change, Competition For Water Resources Is Expected To Increase, With A Particular Impact On Agriculture. Population Is Expected To Increase To Over 10 Billion By 2050, And Whether Urban Or Rural, This Population Will Need Food And Fiber To Meet Its Basic Needs. Inter-sectoral Water Re-allocations And Significant Shifts Of Water Away From Agriculture Will Also Need To Be Accompanied By Improvements In Water Use Efficiency And Improvements In Water Delivery Systems.'' Water Is Being Supplied To Various Cultivated Lands Through Pipes By Lifting Underground Water Through Palm Sets At Nabin Nagar, West Bengal, India On 30/11/2023.

24 September 2023
People, activists from XR, soulevements de la terre, Eau secours 31 amid other collectives organized a march in Toulouse to denounce the public works industries as they operate gravel quarries in the phreatic tables of the Ariege and Garonne rivers. They also marched in support of the 9 hunger strikers against the building of the highway A69 between Toulouse and Castres. They stopped in front of the Conseil Regional Occitanie and in front of the Prefecture of Occitanie. After extracting sand and gravel, public works industries put public works waste in the quarries thus polluting the ground water with aluminium, polystyrene, concrete, etc. These phreatic tables are already running low due to the persistent drought in France and they are used for drinking water of Toulouse amid other towns along the Ariege and Garonne river. This water is also used for irrigation. Toulouse. France. September 24th 2023.
