Remembrance statue seen during National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Genocide of the Citizens of the Polish Republic committed by Ukrainian nationalists during the II World War in todays Wester Ukraine held at Wolhynia Square in Warsaw on July 11, 2022. Polish citizens were minority in todays Wester Ukraine (during IIWW a part of Poland called Eastern Galicia). Polish citizens were executed in 1930. and 1940 by Ukrainian nationalists who aimed at creating independent Ukrainian state. The apogee of the genocide took place on July 11, 1943, when 99 settlements inhabited by Poles were simultaneously attacked by Ukrainians in Volhynia region. The difficult history between Poland and Ukraine has never been fully resolved and todays Polish support in Ukrainians straggle agains Russia gives the history a new light.
