First Hearing At The Administrative Court On The Content On The Legality Of The Planned LGV Highspeed Train Bordeaux-Toulouse
15 December 2025

15 December 2025
A protester holds a placard reading '7kms of LGV have the same cost as a hospital, we have other urgencies'. Several associations such as 'Amis de la Terre' (i.e., 'Friends of Earth'), Stop-LGV 47, Stop-LGV 33, and LGV-No Thanks call for a gathering in front of the main railway station of Toulouse, the Matabiau train station, just before a hearing at the Administrative Court of Toulouse to contest the legality of environmental authorizations of the planned high-speed train between Bordeaux and Toulouse. The CNPN (National Council for the Protection of Nature) says the SNCF file to build this high-speed railway is inadequate, false, and incomplete. The Environmental Authority also says there is no research on alternatives for the LGV, and it is a legal duty. Moreover, the projected price tag is initially estimated at EUR10bn for 200 km, then EUR14bn (in 2021), and now, the costs are estimated to exceed EUR20bn. The EU does not provide any funding. However, there are already two train lines between Bordeaux and Toulouse. The works and the line use more than 6,300 ha of good soils, of which 3,000 ha are forests and 370 ha are wetlands in Toulouse, France, on December 15, 2025.

In Srinagar, Kashmir, India, on December 11, 2025, a Kashmiri artisan paints a Christmas gift item at a workshop before sending it to the market ahead of Christmas celebrations. The decorative industry of Kashmir braces to fulfill orders for the festive season despite United States President Donald Trump's tariffs. Artisans say the recently announced US import duty raises concerns among the exporters. The Christmas items are usually made of Papier Mache and are sent to local markets and also exported to the U.S., Italy, Germany, France, Australia, Muscat, UAE, and other parts of the world.

A demonstrator holds a placard featuring a portrait of Rached Ghannouchi, the jailed leader of the Islamist Ennahda party, with the word ''Freedom'' during a demonstration that brings together supporters of the National Salvation Front, the Republican Party, and families of imprisoned prominent opposition figures in Tunis, Tunisia, on November 15, 2025. The demonstration aims to show solidarity with prominent opposition figures sentenced to long prison terms at first instance in the case known as the ''conspiracy against state security,'' and who are currently on hunger strike in prison. For more than two weeks, political opponent and law professor Jaouhar Ben Mbarek, who is sentenced to a long prison term in the same case, is on a wild hunger strike in his prison cell. According to his lawyers and family, his health deteriorates, and he is reportedly violently assaulted in prison by both inmates and prison officers. In solidarity with Jaouhar Ben Mbarek, other prominent political figures including Rached Ghannouchi, Ghazi Chaouachi, and Issam Chebbi, imprisoned in the same case, as well as former judge and lawyer Ahmed Souab, also start a hunger strike. They all decry the 'politically motivated' convictions, the poor conditions of their incarceration, and a trial that does not meet the standards of a fair and impartial process.

People cough in front of the NGE Roads' asphalt plant near Villeneuve-Les-Lavaur. The banner reads 'Asphalt? To your good health!' The collective 'Collectif sans bitume' (i.e., 'Collective without asphalt') walks against the planned opening of a temporary asphalt plant for the A69 highway near the village of Villeneuve-Les-Lavaur. Inhabitants worry about the environmental and sanitary impacts of this plant. Several studies show an increase in autoimmune diseases and cancers near asphalt plants. NGE Roads and the Tarn's Prefect say there will be no negative effects as NGE Roads will measure the pollutants emitted in the air and inform inhabitants if there is a problem with air quality. No measures will be done on the soil or vegetables. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free') and other opponents want the building of the highway to stop until all the justice decisions on the content are given. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers. This takes place in Toulouse, France, on November 8, 2025.
