Hamantaschen are traditional pastries eaten during the Jewish holiday of Purim. The triangle-shaped hamantaschen are said to be a reminder of the triumph of the good Queen Esther over the evil Haman, who plans to destroy the Jewish people. The cookie itself is symbolic, with the most common interpretation being that they resemble the three-cornered hat worn by Haman.
