Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe(2L, wearing a white shirt and a tie) visits a temple at Colombo, Sri Lanka on Thursday 15 February 2018. The United National Party (UNP) led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe was defeated comprehensively during the recently concluded Local Government election by the newly formed political party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, led by former president Mahinda Rajapakse. Despite Rajapaksa calling for a snap general election claiming that the current government has lost people's mandate to rule the country, the UNP decided last Tuesday (13) to continue the unity government for the remainder of its term without any changes and the ministers of its coalition partner, Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP), led by President Maithripala Sirisena can decide on their own whether to stay with the government or not.
