Activists gathered in protest at the killing of George Floyd march past stuck motorists on Lambeth Bridge in London, England, on May 31, 2020. Thousands came together for the protest, despite ongoing concerns over the possible spread of coronavirus and continuing calls by authorities for social distancing guidelines to be adhered to. Floyd, a black man, died as a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck during an arrest in the US city of Minneapolis on May 25. Floyd's death, reminiscent of the chokehold death of Eric Garner at the hands of police officers in New York in 2014, has reignited the 'Black Lives Matter' movement against police brutality in the US, and left Minneapolis and major cities from coast to coast reeling from nights of rioting.

Police officers on foot patrol walk onto Westminster Bridge outside St Thomas' Hospital, where British Prime Minister Boris Johnson remains in intensive care with the covid-19 coronavirus, in London, England, on April 8, 2020. Johnson, 55, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening with what were described as 'persistent symptoms' of the novel coronavirus. He was moved to intensive care on Monday night after his condition was said to have 'worsened'. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak informed the country today, however, that the prime minister was now improving, sitting up and 'engaging positively' with the medical team around him. Across the UK meanwhile, 60,733 people have now tested positive for the coronavirus, with 7,097 having died.
