A catastrophic fire tears through Korail slum in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on November 26, 2025, one of the largest informal settlements in the city, destroying over 1,000 homes and leaving thousands of families homeless. The fire, which breaks out in the early hours, spreads quickly through the tightly packed dwellings made of wood and tin, reducing entire sections of the slum to ashes. While the disaster leaves residents grappling with loss and despair, the community's resilience shines through as they begin to rebuild, relying on limited resources and unwavering solidarity. The tragedy also highlights the urgent need for better fire safety measures and improved living conditions in these overcrowded urban areas.

Nawaat's magazines are made available during a solidarity day that brings together Tunisian journalists, human rights, and civil society activists at the headquarters of the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) in Tunis, Tunisia, on November 13, 2025. The solidarity day supports journalists from the independent media outlet Nawaat after Tunisian authorities suspend its activities. Nawaat is a progressive, independent media association based in Tunisia. Its activities are suspended for one month by a decision of the Tunisian authorities on October 31. The suspension follows an administrative and financial audit and is seen by supporters as a political move to silence an independent media outlet amidst a broader crackdown on civil society. Nawaat frames it as an arbitrary measure intended to silence free expression and commits to complying with the suspension while vowing to appeal the decision in court.

8 November 2025

A protester with a doll made of asphalt stands near an NGE Roads' asphalt plant near Villeneuve-Les-Lavaur. The banner reads 'Asp^halt? To your good health!' The collective 'Collectif sans bitume' (i.e., 'Collective without asphalt') walks against the planned opening of a temporary asphalt plant for the A69 highway near the village of Villeneuve-Les-Lavaur. Inhabitants worry about the environmental and sanitary impacts of this plant. Several studies show an increase in autoimmune diseases and cancers near asphalt plants. NGE Roads and the Tarn's Prefect say there will be no negative effects as NGE Roads will measure the pollutants emitted in the air, and inhabitants will be informed if there is a problem with air quality. No measures will be taken on the soil or vegetables. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (i.e., 'The Way is Free') and other opponents want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content are given. Opponents of this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway costs EUR512 million (in 2018 euros without inflation) for 54 kilometers. This takes place in Toulouse, France, on November 8, 2025.
