A Balinese woman is looking at her teeth in a mirror after participating in a mass tooth filing ceremony locally known as Mepandes at Giri Kusuma Temple in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia on July 9, 2023. Mepandes is an important ritual of passage for Balinese Hindus that marks the transition from childhood to adulthood. During the ritual, the six front teeth in the upper jaw are filed. The heart of the ritual is a symbolic act of purging an individual of the negative traits known as the Sad Ripu or six enemies: lust, greed, anger, anxiety, conceit and envy. Upon the completion of the ritual, the man or woman will be officially acknowledged as an adult, a mature individual who knows and is aware of the differences between vice and virtue.

People gathered to watch the sun rising from the sea on July 1, 2019. People welcoming the first sunrise of July at the most Eastern part of Bulgaria, near the village of Kamen Bryag. The gathering is called July and is a Bulgarian tradition since 1980 ( usually people spend the night with friends at the beach and watch the sun rising on the 1st of July). This ritual is inspired by the hippi culture and the Uriah heep's classic July Morning and started as a rebellion again the comunistic regime in the country. For a while now the gathering is accompanied by a rock concert.
