Three suspected extremists were killed and two members of Rapid Action Battalion were injured after the law enforcers carried out a drive at a suspected extremist hideout at West Nakhalpara in the Dhaka city, Bangladesh, on 12 January 2018. Rapid Action Battalion director general Benazir Ahmed said ‘There are three bodies found lying inside the building. Two national identity cards of Jahid and Sajib were also found on the spot. However, the photos of the NID cards are same. It is believed that the cards belong to the same person.’ Tipped-off that a gang of extremists were staying on the fourth floor of a six-storey building at West Nakhalpara, a RAB team cordoned off the building around 2:00am, said Mufti Mahmud Khan, director (Legal and media wing) of RAB. ‘At one stage, the extremists opened fire and hurled a grenade around5:30am targeting the RAB personnel,’ said Mufti adding that the RAB men also fired back in retaliation. Sounds of heavy gunshots and explosions were heard from the spot. Bomb disposal units of the law enforcers went to the spot.
