Night view of the Markt in Brugge, with some of the most characteristic buildings in the city and restaurant district for tourism. BRUGES-BELGIUM 16/09/2015 . The main attraction of Bruges (Belgium) is its historic center, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2000. Although it has been largely rebuilt, this urban center is one of the largest European interest because it keeps intact the medieval architectural structures. Like Amsterdam and Stockholm, among others, Bruges is known as "the Venice of the North" because of the many canals running through the city and the beauty of the mismos.Su name comes from the Old Norse "Bryggia" (bridges , wharves, piers). Interestingly, in the Flemish / Dutch language "Brug" means "bridge", and that this city boasts as the plural name of this word because of the large number of bridges that are in it.
