A sidewalk repair shop operates on Hang Dong Street in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, on March 23, 2025. Under aging awnings and faded signs that advertise electrical repairs, several men work directly on the pavement, surrounded by tools, spare parts, and small machines. Plastic stools and makeshift workstations define the space, reflecting the resourcefulness and hands-on labor that power much of the city's informal economy. The blend of street-level commerce, worn architecture, and green plants creates a layered and authentic urban scene.

Plastic and Styrofoam litter the shore in the North of Indonesia capital Jakarta on 8 June 2021. As people around the world mark World Oceans Day today, somewhere in the north of Indonesia's capital Jakarta, fishers continue to work in one of the country’s largest fishing areas. They work and live in areas contaminated with garbage and hazardous waste from shipwrecks. Much is at stake for Indonesia to assert its global role in sustaining the oceans. With over 60 percent of Indonesia’s territory covered by water, fisheries are a vital livelihood in the country, employing 12 million people with small scale fisheries making up approximately 95 percent of the fishing sector.
