Farmers harvest sorghum plants at the National Sorghum Development Center (Sein Farm) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Sorghum Center Indonesia, holds a major harvest at the pilot plantation, producing approximately three tons of wet sorghum and 1.5 tons of dry sorghum. Demli, 58 years old, is a native of Buton Island. He works as a chili, eggplant, and papaya farmer around the nickel mining industry circle of the Harita Group company in Kawasi Village on September 1, 2024, in Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. Nickel mining development begins in 2010 by a subsidiary of PT. Harita Group. Massive forest destruction results in seawater pollution for small islands in eastern Indonesia. Indonesia becomes the largest nickel ore miner and contributes to the world's largest battery technology market. From April 2024 until now, his agricultural land is damaged by flooding that affects about 20 meters in area. The water that submerges the land has a negative impact on plantation yields, damaging the harvest. Not far in front of the plantation land, there is a sago forest area that appears damaged and dead due to flooding with the fastest water.
