Earlier that afternoon, an assailant opened fire on civilians in the district and took hostages inside the store. Negotiators attempted contact before KORD officers entered the premises and neutralized the individual. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the attacker was a 58-year-old Moscow-born man. The Interior Ministry reported that he possessed a legally registered carbine and shot four people on the street before a fifth hostage was killed inside the supermarket. A sixth victim, a woman around 30 years old, later died in the hospital.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City launches a 'Vehicle-Free Asan' program to help preserve the originality of the historic urban settlement of Asan. Acting Mayor Sunita Dango announces the implementation of the program in areas from Kamala Chhi Chowk to Asan, from Bhotahiti Chowk to Asan, and from Mahabouddha to Asan. Vehicles are prohibited in these areas every Saturday during the program. The metropolis states it is continuously working to conserve, promote, and protect tangible, intangible, natural, and archival heritage within its geographical and administrative jurisdiction. The initiative aims to help preserve Kathmandu's cultural identity and ensure the continuation of traditional lifestyles, festivals, and cultural practices from one generation to another.

Vehicle staff and a municipal police officer prepare to operate the night shuttle service from the garage in Lalitpur, Nepal, on April 14, 2026. Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, inaugurates the service, introduced in collaboration with Sajha Yatayat. In the first phase, electric bus services will operate on routes from Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha, Budhanilkantha to Lagankhel, Thankot to the Airport, and the Airport to Thankot. One route covers 16 kilometers, passing through Lagankhel, Patan Hospital, Alka, Norvic, Maternity Hospital, Trauma Center, Bir Hospital, Kanti Hospital, Teaching Hospital, and Gangalal Heart Center before reaching Budhanilkantha. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City states this is a north-south one-way route. The east-west route, covering 20 kilometers, runs from Thankot through Satungal, Kalanki, Kalimati, Tripureshwor, Thapathali, Maitighar Mandala, Baneshwor, Minbhawan, and Tinkune to the International Airport. The metropolis informs that four night-time electric buses will operate on these two routes.
