Prickly pear plantations in a rural area in Siliana, Tunisia, on May 10, 2024. Several agricultural areas in Tunisia are the latest victims of the cochineal invasion, which appears in North Africa 10 years ago. The cochineal, imported by chance from the Americas--where the prickly pear also originates--sucks the sap from the plant, slowly killing it.
