Striking RATP railway workers posed in front of a large banner bearing the Macron logo and reading "With me death before retirement" on Saturday 11 January 2020, on the 36th day of the strike against pension reform, the RATP's inter-union organisations, made up of the CGT, FO, Solidaires, SUD, FSU and student organisations, called for a new day's demonstration in Paris to demand the withdrawal of the pension reform project. The demonstration was quickly disrupted by clashes between demonstrators and police forces who responded with tear gas to disperse the hostile crowd.

Parisians anticipated the strike by limiting their travel as much as possible and by taking a day off or dealing with telework. In fact, the transport was almost deserted.
