The fruit of the Crotalaria juncea, or sunn hemp, is a cylindrical, hairy pod containing many seeds and turns light brown when mature. It measures about 3-6 cm long and 1-2 cm in diameter. The fruit is also called a 'rattlepod' because of the clustered seeds in the pod. The Crotalaria juncea is being used as a cover crop to improve soil properties, reduce soil erosion, conserve soil water, and recycle plant nutrients. When grown as a summer annual, it is producing over 5,000 pounds of biomass and 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre.
