In Middletown, New Jersey, on April 5, 2024, the Middletown Township Police are responding to the scene where a person is being struck in the head with a sledgehammer multiple times outside of Crown Tire. The police were called to the scene at Crown Tire, 330 Route 36, around 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. The police officers are discovering a 64-year-old man from Edison, New Jersey, critically wounded with multiple head wounds. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Michael Gonzales of Philadelphia, is being detained by witnesses before being taken into custody by the police. The police say Gonzales is striking the man multiple times with the sledgehammer. A female victim is being pushed by the suspect, resulting in her fall and injuries. Gonzales is known to have connections to both victims involved.
