A Renaissance fresco depicting the stigmatization of St. Francis of Assisi is seen in the covered loggia of the Sanctuary of La Verna, Arezzo, Tuscany, Italy, on April 9, 2026. The composition shows Francis kneeling in his brown Franciscan habit in a wooded landscape, arms raised in ecstasy, as a seraph -- a winged Christ-like figure radiating golden light -- descends from above, with five red rays connecting to the saint's hands, feet, and side. A second figure meditates in a rocky recess at right. Gilded Corinthian pilasters frame the scene, which commemorates the mystical event of September 14, 1224, that occurred on this mountain.

Comet C/2025 R3, also known as Pan-STARRS, is visible before dawn in the sky of Karawang, West Java, on April 15, 2025. Comet C/2025 R3 (Pan-STARRS) is a rare long-period comet originating from the Oort Cloud, located at the edge of the solar system, and passes close to the Sun approximately every 170,000 years. This comet was first detected on September 7-8, 2025, by the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS) telescope system in Hawaii. A young female demonstrator draped in a Hamas flag shouts slogans during a demonstration in Tunis, Tunisia, on April 4, 2026. The event brings together dozens of pro-Palestinian activists protesting the detention of Tunisian organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla. Demonstrators also express opposition to Israel's proposed death penalty law, which would allow for the execution of Palestinians tried in military courts. Several members of the Tunisian coordination of the Global Sumud Flotilla's first mission have been arrested, including Wael Naouar, his wife Jawaher Channa, Nabil Chennoufi, Dr. Mohamed Amine Bennour, and Sana M'hidli. On March 16, a Tunisian judge ordered their pre-trial detention, citing suspicions of money laundering under anti-terrorism legislation, as well as fraud and the alleged misuse of donated funds. The case is linked to a fundraising campaign conducted during the Global Sumud Flotilla in September 2025. Tunisian pro-Palestinian organizations and Gaza flotilla organizers call for the release of the detained individuals.

Cadres and supporters of the Communist Party of Nepal- Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) clash with police during a protest demanding the release of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who has been arrested on charges related to last September's Gen-Z protest, in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 28, 2026. Protesters also set fire to the report of the High Level Investigation Commission formed to investigate the events of the Gen-Z protest. The protest follows a decision made at the central secretariat meeting held at the party headquarters in Lalitpur, which directed mass organizations to lead protests on behalf of the party. The secretariat meeting also decided to pursue legal and political actions against the arrest of party chair KP Sharma Oli. The report attributes the response to the protests to criminal negligence and recklessness, citing a failure to act on prior intelligence about possible escalation that led to multiple deaths. During the youth-led protests, a total of 77 people were killed, and government and private property worth billions were destroyed.
