A woman holds a placard reading 'Women are the first victims of bombs'. Women from the collective NousToustes and other organizations such as SUD and Amnesty International organize a nationwide march in France against feminicides, sexual and sexist violence, and patriarchy. Several thousand people, both women and men, take to the streets on this day. They demand more measures from the French government to protect women who are beaten, injured, or killed by their partners. They state that 65% of killed women had approached the police to make a complaint, but the police classified the complaints. They also ask for better police training to pay attention to these complaints. Feminist organizations demand at least EUR2.6 billion per year as necessary to tackle violence against women. In 2023, more than 270,000 women are victims of violence by their partners. This takes place in Toulouse, France, on November 22, 2025.

22 April 2024

Red Rebels from Extinction Rebellion are standing in front of riot police in Toulouse, France, on April 21, 2024. Several thousand people are demonstrating in the streets of Toulouse against the controversial A69 highway project between Toulouse and Castres. Political parties, unions, and NGOs, including La Voie est Libre, GNSA, CGT, Sud, Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, LFI, NPA, Amis de la Terre, and FSU, have called for this day of protest. Several MPs from La France Insoumise and elected officials from towns along the planned A69 route are participating in the protest. Before the march began, dozens of cyclists arrived from Castres on their bicycles. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' and other opponents are demanding that construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions are made. Not all expropriations for farmers have been resolved. Opponents argue that reprofiling the N126 would be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles expected per day and would cost far less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would destroy over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land.

Cyclists are arriving from Castres to join the protest in Toulouse, France, on April 21, 2024. Several thousand people are demonstrating in the streets of Toulouse against the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. Political parties, unions, and NGOs, including La Voie est Libre, GNSA, CGT, Sud, Greenpeace, XR, LFI, NPA, Amis de la Terre, and FSU, have called for this day of protest. Members of Parliament from La France Insoumise (France Unbowed) are participating in the protest, along with elected officials from towns along the planned A69 highway route. Before the march began, dozens of cyclists arrived from Castres with their bicycles. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' is leading the opposition, demanding that construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions are made. The expropriations of farmers' land have not been resolved. Opponents argue that upgrading the N126 would be sufficient for the anticipated 6,000 vehicles per day and would cost significantly less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would destroy habitats for over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land.
