A performer in a glowing LED suit electrifies the stage with lasers and smoke at a Cafe-Restaurant in a shopping mall in Tehran, Iran, on November 28, 2025. After the 12-day war and amid economic hardship, some people still frequent restaurants offering more luxurious services--places that use music, color, and modern decor to create a calming atmosphere. Despite rumors of renewed conflict between Iran and Israel, they strive to return to ordinary life and preserve their sense of peace.

Protesters light a smoke flare, releasing thick black smoke in front of the headquarters of the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) in Tunis, Tunisia, on November 22, 2025, during a mass rally organized under the slogan ''March Against Injustice.'' Organized by the support committee for imprisoned former judge and lawyer Ahmed Souab, the protest denounces President Kais Saied's policies. The demonstration brings together opposition political parties from across the spectrum along with Gen Z activists, human rights groups, and civil society members dressed in black, denouncing what participants describe as President Saied's authoritarian and repressive rule. The Tunisian opposition, joined by local and international human rights groups, demands the release of political prisoners and condemns what they view as an assault on democracy, citing the erosion of institutions through an escalating crackdown on dissent, judicial independence, press freedom, and human rights. They warn that Saied's rule drives a broader democratic backslide.

Smoke billows from a residential area in Kathmandu, Nepal, on October 17, 2025, as a thin layer of smog shrouds the atmosphere of the bowl-shaped valley, with the Air Quality Index measuring above 100. The average readings of Kathmandu's pollution exceed annual average concentrations of PM2.5 of 5 ug/m3, while 24-hour average exposures should not exceed 15 ug/m3 more than 3-4 days per year, as prescribed by the World Health Organization. PM2.5 refers to particulate matter (solid or liquid droplets) in the air less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter. It is among the most dangerous pollutants that can get past the nose and throat to penetrate the lungs and even the bloodstream. PM2.5 particles are small and are also likely to stay suspended in the air for long, increasing the chances of people inhaling them. According to Nepal's Environmental Protection Agency's air quality index, an air quality reading of 151-200 is considered unhealthy, causing everyone to experience problems and sensitive groups to feel more severe effects. When air quality reaches 201-300, it is considered a very unhealthy level, and health risks increase for everyone in the area. When it crosses 300, it becomes hazardous, meaning that the air is of extremely poor quality and poses serious health risks to everyone.

Sunset views from Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park, Montana, United States, on September 7, 2025. Visitors gather on the rocky ledges outside the historic backcountry lodge to watch the sun sink behind the smoky horizon. Lingering Canadian wildfire smoke mutes the colors but enhances the layered silhouettes of surrounding ridges and valleys.
