A Brown Fish Owl (Ketupa zeylonensis) is being seen at the lake in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, on January 13, 2024. The Brown Fish Owl is a species of fish owl in the family known as typical owls, Strigidae, and is native to Turkey and Southeast Asia. Due to its wide distribution, it is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. It inhabits forests and wooded wetlands. Among the four living species of fish owl, it is the most widely distributed, most common, and best studied, occupying a range of over 7,000 km.
