Protesters are holding placards, one of which reads 'to renounce isn't to lose, it's doing differently. Christophe Cassou. IPCC. Stop A69', as several thousand people are demonstrating in the streets of Toulouse, France, against the controversial A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres. Political parties, unions, and NGOs, including La Voie est Libre, GNSA, CGT, Sud, Greenpeace, XR, LFI, NPA, Amis de la Terre, and FSU, have called for this day of protest. Members of Parliament from La France Insoumise (France Unbowed) are participating in the protest alongside elected officials from towns along the planned A69 highway route. Before the march began, dozens of cyclists arrived from Castres on their bicycles. The main association 'La Voie est Libre' (The Way is Free) and other opponents are demanding that construction of the highway be halted until all judicial decisions regarding the project are made. Expropriations for farmers have not been resolved. Opponents argue that reprofiling the N126 would be sufficient for the anticipated 6,000 vehicles per day and would cost significantly less money. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would result in the destruction of over 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land. The protest is taking place in Toulouse, France, on April 21, 2024.

Someone marked in the moss of a cut oak 'Stop A69'. In the woods near Cuq-tToulza in the Tarn Departement on the planned A69, opponents to this project nicknamed the woods the 'Serwood forest that three people ('Ecureuils' ie 'squirrels') climbed on oaks to block their cutting for the building site. They were deprived of food, water and sleep by police during more than 36 hours. After the coming of the OPP (Police Practices Observatory), the support of opponents and a phone call to the Prefet by MP Karen Erodi, 'ecureuils' have been resupplied. A near-accident happened when a lumberjack let a tree fall on the rope connecting two 'ecureuils' and he knew what he was doing. The main collective 'La Voie est Libre' (ie 'The Way is Free') want the building of the highway to be stopped until all the justice decisions on the content to be given. All expropiations for farmers aren't cleared. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. The A69 highway will cost EUR512 millions (in 2018 euros without the inflation) for 54 kilometers. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural fields will be destroyed. Cuq-Toulza.
